Our team of Eco-friendly pupils are responsible for promoting lots of ways to save energy at school and to help our environment. They work as a team, under the guidance of Mrs Yeoman to set challenges and targets for the school in it's bid to continue to be a successful 'Eco School'

Eco-Rangers Community Litter-Picking Event

Our incredible Eco-Rangers organised a community litter-picking event around the Greatwood and Horseclose Estate. In the first hour they filled a whopping six bin bags. Even some of our youngest nursery children took part! thumbnail_IMG_0586

Eco-Conference July 2022

We were delighted to be invited to take part in the School's Eco-Conference in July 2022. The Forum is a platform sharing skills, knowledge and experience in promoting education for sustainable development (ESD) in schools and other learning communities in Lancashire including the organisation of annual conferences for primary and secondary school pupils. It encourages environmental education and learning outside the classroom, with an emphasis on real world links to jobs and future career prospects.

Year of Waste Challenge

Challenge ambition:

To inform the strategic thinking of Members, Trustees, Headteachers, SLT and Governors in all aspects of how the Trust schools manage and reduce waste.
To develop a Waste Policy for the Trust that is realistic, sustainable and supports the Trust in meeting its core objective of reducing its carbon footprint.

July: Our Eco-Rangers met with Mrs Plews (NSAT CEO) and Dr Jane Beasley in our Outdoor Classroom area to share what we have learnt in the past 12 months about waste.

Waste Crime:

Did you know that Waste Crime costs the UK Government around £600 million a year? Our Eco-Rangers have been learning all about Waste Crime and the effect that it has upon our locality. The Eco-Rangers have been actively noting all incidents of Fly-Tipping around the Greatwood and Horseclose Estate and have even written to our local Mayor and the local MP Julian Smith.

We have a large area at the entrance to Greatwood School which is where our Waste display and our two eco-boards are.

Nature Savers

Our Eco-Rangers are so passionate about saving nature that they have set up another group called 'The Nature Savers.' They have been actively raising funds for Oxfam and for the RSPB. The girls held

a bake and craft stall at school and raised £100. We have no doubt that the Nature Savers will continue to be passionate about reducing single use plastics, protecting animals and doing their bit to teach others about Eco issues.
